Job Title: Countryside Management Ranger x 2 (volunteer position)

Location: Kelburn Country Centre, Fairlie, near Largs, North Ayrshire
 
Closing Date: Ongoing until position is filled
Start Date: ASAP (suitable applicants can start right away after CV is received)
Salary: This is a volunteer position which will include accommodation and a weekly stipend.
Full time and seasonal for a five day week 9am-6pm

We have seasonal positions (residential) available for two enthusiastic and highly motivated rangers at Kelburn Castle and Country Centre.  These positions will join an established ranger team to help with a variety of activities, including: all aspects of practical countryside management, maintenance of the country centre visitor areas and supporting ranger and country centre events. 
 
Reporting to the Head Ranger and General Manager at Kelburn, these positions will serve as an integral part of our Countryside Ranger Service, which plays a fundamental role in enhancing and protecting Kelburn’s countryside whilst encouraging greater public understanding and enjoyment of it.   Ideally, candidates should have previous experience in, or at least be passionate about, countryside management and tourism.   Previous experience working with members of the public of all ages and abilities, knowledge of countryside management issues and good communication skills are highly encouraged.  
 
The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate some knowledge of natural history and will need to be friendly, with an outgoing personality and a flexible attitude to work as weekend and evening work is required.  This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in working in countryside management and/or tourism development.  There is a fantastic team working within the very social atmosphere at Kelburn, which also hosts three music festivals and several exciting events throughout the year. Accommodation will be provided, as well as a weekly stipend.
 
Main duties include, but not are limited to:
 
1. Supporting the Head Ranger and ranger team and working directly with the Centre / Office managers, you’ll assist in all aspects of park and estate management. 
2. Not afraid to roll up your sleeves, you’ll also assist the ranger team as you undertake practical maintenance tasks 
3. Practical and physical outdoor work in all weathers, including animal husbandry
4. Being responsible for the presentation of facilities / exhibition areas. 
5. Supporting daily routine operations, Litter / loos / etc 
6. Monitoring safety of facilities adventure play areas etc.

3. Not afraid to roll up your sleeves, you’ll also assist the ranger team as you undertake practical maintenance tasks. 
4. Meeting & greeting visitors and offering information and advice. 
5. Practical and physical outdoor work in all weathers, including animal husbandry
6. Being responsible for the presentation of facilities / exhibition areas. 
7. Supporting daily routine operations, Litter / loos / etc 
8. Monitoring safety of facilities adventure play areas etc. 
9. Working with the front of house team when the centre is busy.
