Explore Kelburn’s fascinating history dating back to 1066!

Home to the Earl of Glasgow, Chief of Clan Boyle, Kelburn Castle is Scotland’s oldest castle to be continually inhabited by one family. Be guided back through history from the castle’s contemporary graffiti artwork to it’s origins in the 1200’s and the history of the De Boyvilles dating back to 1066.

The tours last approximately 1 hour and cover the castle architecture, castle & estate history and history of the Boyle family.

Information:

  • Please note as the castle is an historic building it has many original features including staircases. Unfortunately, this means the castle tours are unsuitable for wheelchair users, zimmer frames, prams or buggies.
  • Kelburn Castle is the living home of the Earl of Glasgow. The tour is not suitable for children under the age of 12 years. We ask that all children are closely supervised at all times.
  • The tours begin at the Visitor Centre and commence with a 15 minute outdoor walk and tour to the castle. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Please arrive in good time ahead of your tour. Park in the main car park and check in at the Visitor Centre. Please note that there are no toilets beyond the Visitor Centre. Parking is not available at the castle itself.
